Community Sponsored Seafood

Our Community Sponsored Seafood (CSS) program was initiated to provide savings to the seafood consumer and to share the fixed costs associated with sourcing direct seafood. Otolith Sustainable Seafood only distributes the highest quality sustainable seafood.

Benefits

> Get the best quality seafood of the season for less than retail prices!

> Participate in an initiative that buys directly from responsible harvesters and contributes to environmentally sound fishery management!

> Support the new green economy by encouraging environmentally friendly jobs!

Features

> There are 250 shares available for each seasonal CSS Program. Each share is $130-$180 -- less than $13-$15 per pound for sustainably harvested fish usually priced at $18-$20 per pound in stores.

> Each share receives one delivery of nearly 5lbs fish every three or four weeks until all fish has been distributed. Most CSS Programs have three deliveries; smaller programs only have two deliveries.

> Each delivery provides approximately 5 lbs of sustainable Alaskan fish -- enough for a family of four to have three generous meals per month.  Summer CSS has King, Coho, Pink, and Sockeye Salmons and Fall CSS has halibut, rockfish and Pacific Cod whitefish.   The total monthly share arrives in approximately five 1.0 lb (average) vacuum pack portions.

Program

The
CSS will purchase direct from Alaska mixed variety fish or shellfish during peak harvest. These high-quality fish will be filleted and blast frozen at -40 degrees in vacuum-sealed packs. The high-quality shellfish will be are Individually Quick blast frozen at -40 degrees in either half crab clusters or tails.  The total harvest will be divided equally among the share members and distributed through existing CSA programs and farmers’ markets. Market availability and locations vary due to seasonal limitations and required cooperation of other organizations. Please verify that the location for your CSS pick/up is available for the seasonal CSS program you selected to enroll.

Otolith's CSS program uses the collective buying power of the group to allow each shareholder to purchase the highest quality of sustainable sushi-grade filets at wholesale prices.  The more participants, the more buying power -- so tell a friend!

Payment Options

> The best way! Checks made payable to Otolith Sustainable Seafood.

> Another way! Cash will be accepted but is not recommended.

> No way! Otolith does not accept credit card payments for the CSS program.

Otolith asks that participants release share payments as soon as they decide to participate.  Since CSS fish is caught just weeks before delivery, sea and weather conditions may sometimes cause shipments to arrive late.  Otolith is committed to improving the predictability of CSS delivery.  However, when nature is involved, there will always be an element of uncertainty. Participants who are concerned about the timing of their CSS delivery should not hesitate to communicate their needs to Otolith management via phone or email.
